I’ve always had a love for wildlife and the outdoors. It was during the 2021 COVID-19 lockdowns that I found myself with more time to get back to doing something I’d always enjoyed, spending time outside and around nature, but this time I decided to combine that with my interest in photography.

I started out with nothing more than a phone and a spotting scope, teaching myself as I went and trying to make the most of what I had around me. Before long, I was hooked. In October 2021, I bought my first camera and really started diving into wildlife photography.

Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to have my work featured by the BBC and in a number of local Scottish publications. I’m still super pleased every time something I’ve captured gets recognised, and it’s definitely given me even more of a push to keep learning and improving.

For me, wildlife photography isn’t just about getting a great photo. It’s about being outside, spending time with wildlife and those moments you simply can’t plan for. You can sit for hours waiting for something to happen, and then suddenly you get that one moment that makes it all worthwhile.

A big part of what I love is showing people that you don’t always have to travel miles to find amazing wildlife. Some of the best moments can be right on your doorstep. From otters along the River Tay and red squirrels in the local woodland, to kingfishers, birds of prey and the changing wildlife around Perth and beyond, there is always something to see if you take the time to look.

My photography is about sharing those moments and hopefully encouraging others to get outside, explore what’s around them and appreciate the wildlife we’re lucky enough to have here in Scotland.

There’s still a lot I want to see and photograph, both closer to home and further afield, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the journey takes me.
